    “Gathering for Community Support” at Three Cups Coffee House
    279 West Marine Drive, Astoria, Oregon
    Monday, Dec. 20th, 6:30pm

    There will be a gathering to provide support to folks who have been impacted by the Cannery Café/#10 Sixth Street fire this Monday evening, December 20th at 6:30 p.m. at Three Cups Coffee House, in the Columbia River Coffee Roasters Building at 279 West Marine Drive in Astoria. This event will be hosted by a team of local mental health clinicians to provide trauma debriefing and support. Anyone who feels impacted by the fire and/or who wishes to express their support for those impacted is welcome to attend. In addition to group support, the mental health team will provide information about mental health resources which are available to individuals and businesses in coping with the aftermath of the fire. The team plans to provide additional venues for group support to address the developing mental health needs of our community around this issue.     A concert to benefit employees of the Cannery Cafe is planned for New Years Eve at the Elks Lodge in Astoria, 3rd floor. 9pm. The band Four on the Floor will open, and the Swaggers will headline. Contact Betsy Lennon for details, 503-791-9855.

    Clatsop Economic Development Resources (CEDR), Enterprise Cascadia and the City of Astoria are working to assist businesses impacted by the Thursday evening fire. Key elements include technical assistance with insurance forms, estimated business losses, business recovery planning and any other form of business advising required. Emergency loans of up to $3,500 are available to assist with rapid resumption of business.

    CEDR and Enterprise Cascadia will be available at the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce’s green building to meet with business owners requiring technical or financial assistance at the following times:

    * 10am-2pm, Dec 21, 22 and 23
    * 10am-2pm, Dec 28, 29 and 30

    You can also call the Chamber (503-325-6311) during those hours and ask for the CEDR extension (113). Check the Relief page on this site for more information and an application.

    On behalf of Saralee and myself,(Dena), I would like to thank all of you for your asistance in providing resources for our co workers. We have contacted so many of you this last week and truly appreciate your generousity. We understand how the economic situation has impacted so many members of our community and are so grateful for assistance so many of you have provided, along with the kind words and support given to us during our time of need. Your assistance will help our displaced dishwashers, cooks, servers, and bartenders.
    We want to welcome all of you to enjoy your New Year’s celebration at the Elks Lodge this evening. Activities will also include a raffle and auction. We look forward to a fun-filled evening- hope to see you!

    HIPFISH MONTHLY FIRE BENEFIT

    Hipfish Arts and Cultural Monthly lost everything in the recent fire at #10 -6th Street.

    Artists, musicians, friends, and readers have gathered together to throw an Art Sale and “Entertainment-A-Thon.” Show your support for Hipfish, which has shown its support for all things artsy and alternative for over 15 years.

    Columbian Theater will host a HUGE “Entertainment-A-Thon” from 4-8PM. The main floor will be all ages, while beer & wine will be available in the balcony, 21 and over. Pizza and beverages available for purchase throughout. (SUNDAY, January 23rd, 2011. 4-8PM.) Wristbands will be available for a suggested $20 donation at 3:30PM at the Columbian box office. Pre-purchase possibilities TBA.

    Fisherpoet Dave Densmore and Alexa Wiley MC the Columbian stage, along with KMUN’s Calamity Jane. (Michael Hurley, The Swaggers, Ma Barley, Radio Cowboy: all on deck so far… more to come. Pierce Christie from Mallturnative is doing sound.)

    The VooDooRoom will open at 5PM (21 and over) with live music set by Denise Drake. An open mic, MC’ed by NachoBiz (KMUN’s “Cocktail Nation”) will be from 6-8PM. Sign up on site. Pizza and beverages available for purchase in the VooDooRoom, as well.

    Columbian Theater box office will open at 3:30PM, Sunday, January 23rd, 2011, and wrist band pre-purchase information will be available soon.

    THE ART SALE:

    Fabulous donated art will be on display at several locations around Astoria, up for sale in a silent auction. (RiverSea, Old Town Framing, Lunar Boy, Lightbox Gallery, Dots & Doodles.)

    Art donations can be dropped off during business hours at RiverSea Gallery in Astoria, OR. January 9 – January 13th, (Noon-5PM.) Art should be ready to show, with name, value, and contact info. The shows are being hung on January 14th and will be on display and available for SIGN-UP SILENT AUCTION bids from the 15th-23rd. Winner info will be available at The Event on Sunday.

    An information website has been donated by Sirius Media of Portland and will soon be up for ongoing updated information. Everything is so new and the holidays are over, so things should move along quickly now.
